Modernisation leads to more efficiency
A manufacturer’s entire pre-production workflow was paper based. Paper job tickets were manually sent from Sales to the factory floor and urgent orders were rushed around the factory on foot, creating stress.
Additional notes scribbled on job tickets were often misunderstood, creating production errors. Orders got lost, were late and customers regularly complained about quality issues.
KPI metrics were entered in spreadsheets at project end and visibility on production, staff performance and training needs was low.
Propel Technologies’ IT Solutions team digitised manual processes, streamlined workflows and connected the manufacturer’s departments, to create real change across production, training, culture and customer experience.
We created a custom solution to run the entire operation with one unified system. Now, bespoke software integrates with the manufacturer’s ERP and MYOB systems, all orders are digital and staff use iPads on the factory floor instead of paper.
Priority projects are highly visible and staff log details of their work throughout production – including time – which increases accountability and flags potential delays.
IP cameras inside the factory monitor products on the production line, so damaged goods can be pulled before they’re shipped and quality issues addressed.
Managers get automated daily and weekly updates, including KPI data, which highlights errors or problems.
And, customers can plug into the manufacturer’s system via an API and track their orders in real time.
Complete modernisation of a paper-based factory to digital workflows has meant shorter lead times, increased order accuracy and enhanced quality control. There is less stress, greater efficiency and better morale.
Greater visibility on the production line has produced a cultural shift in the business. There is no longer panic on the factory floor over urgent orders and staff performance issues are now easily identified and rectified through training.
Propel Technologies provides ongoing IT Support to the business and we’re available to support new staff with extra training on the ERP, if ever needed.
The manufacturer is a $400 million company that continues to grow and scale.
